A 14% reduction in attendance has been reported since the start of our striking ‘walk this way’ awareness campaign, which drove traffic to NHS ‘walk-in’ centres thus relieving congestion on A&E departments. Patient numbers at both the Barking and the Dagenham walk-in centres rose by 54% and 43% respectively as we engaged diverse local communities through a mix of direct marketing, posters, outdoor/press advertising and road-show materials. We were able to reach all community groups through localisation into six languages.
